Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

when someone dies, what happens to their storage.

I work at a storage facility. A tenant recently passed away.

the family is showing up wanting to take their items.

Where is the law on this? What documentation must they produce? how do you know who to release the items to , to be legally correct?
