estate check

I was on the site for unclaimed money. My decease husband had 11K in unclaimed money for Blue Cross. They sent me the ckeck but it says PAYABLE TO THE ESTATE OF ...... HOW DO I CASH THIS CHECK AND DOES THE MONEY GO TO ME OR HIS UNPAID DEBT?

It will go to his unpaid debt first. How you cash it depends upon the size of his estate and the nature of his assets.

Consult a lawyer. You can pay the lawyer from your husband's estate. The amount of compensation will be governed by statute.

if husband's estate was less than $100,000, the file a small estate petition with the probate court.
