Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Estate concern

20+ years ago my parent passed. Am I entitled to any of the estate if it was left to step parent?

Re: Estate concern

It depends. Was there a will? Was there a trust? How were the assets held? I assume your step-parent has passed. Does he or she have a will or a trust? What does it say?

For instance, if your parent's only significant asset was a home and it was held in joint tenancy with the step parent, then the step parent would receive the house and you would have no claim.
