Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

estates - money left to an individual

If you live in Californiaand someone passed away in Michigan and leaves you something in the will, do you have to travel to claim what was left to you or can you work through a lawyer in the state in which you now live? Also, must a lawyer disclose what has been left to you?

You can claim through a lawyer and do not have to travel. If you have been left something in a will that is being probated you do have to be notified, assuming the personal representative of the estate can find you.
