Unlike most other assets, the money from a life insurance policy does not pass via the Will, but rather becomes immediately payable to the beneficiaries listed on the life insurance policy. you can contact the life ilnsurance company, if you know which one it is, and ask if you are named on your father's policy. It is very unlikely they would have paid any money to someone not listed on the policy.
Parents often do very strange things when it comes to leaving behind their assets. Sometimes they give it to the worse of the children because that one needs money the most, or they feel that child is so bad because they failed to raise them correctly.
