Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My father passed away in Japan but for most of his life he was a businessman in California. His company is worth a lot of money and I know he had over 8 million dollars when he showed me his bank account 7 years ago. I have no clue how to get a hold of my inheritance because he passed away while he was in Japan. I don't exactly have a lot of money to hire lawyers to get my inheritance.

You may need an attorney to help you. If a probate is necessary, most of the attorney's fees will come from your father's estate.

You need to gather all the information you can about your father -- the name of the business, where he banked, and everything else. This will require you to gather his key papers. Those papers may be in your father's home or in his safe deposit box. The lawyer should be able to guide you through this, and to help you investigate what assets your father owned and who has claims to them.
