Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
My father passed away in 1999 and supposedly left us some money, but I've never seen a penny. How do I go find out where it went?

Guess what. You can't sue anybody over stuff that happened 11 years ago. You snooze, you lose. Cal. Civil Code 3527.
While it may indeed be too late to do anything, the best place to start looking is the Court record in the County where your father died. If he had a will that was probated, the Court would have records of it. Where you can go from there, if anywhere, will depend on what you find. You can also try searching the State's unclaimed property web site. If there was property that was never claimed, such as bank accounts, they have likely made their way to the State by now. You can pay an attorney to help you try and find answers to your questions, but I would not hold out a lot of hope in getting anyting. Good luck.
