Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My father passed away. He told everyone he wanted me to have his motorcycle. . The motorcycle is paid in full but he has debt from medical bills and child support from when I was younger. I have to wait 41 days at the DMV to change the title to my name. How do I prevent someone he owes money to from claiming the bike or filing a lien before I can change to title over to me? Would it be best for me to wait, file a lien or some other option?

If he has debts that cannot be satisfied any other way, the bike belongs to the creditors, not you. They will get it sooner or later, and the more you do to try to keep them from getting it, the more likely you will do something that will give them a right to collect directly from you.
