Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
As a female changing the spelling of my name .
Some number of years ago, after having a great deal of difficulty with the public in pronouncing my name, I asked my father to go into court and have the spelling changed (from Darhl to--name removed--. At that time it was discovered that my first name did not appear on my birth certificate and thus it really wasn't a change but an assignment of my first name as--name removed-- Now, after a number of years of accepting the surprise on initial contact from those who are sure that I am male, not female (the evolution of the name from Darrell to--name removed-- it has created an even larger problem both professionally and personally.. I am told that nothing legal needs to be done and that I can just use the old spelling (Darhl) without any reprecusions. I would like a legal opinion please.

It is true that you can just use any name you want. If you want something more official you can petition the court to change your name legally but that is optional.
