How can I find the identity of the executor of a decedent's estate ?

If the will has been probated or lodged with the court (in the county where the decedent lived) you can look it up at the courthouse, or possibly on line, depending on the county.

If a petition has been filed for administration or probate of a will, there should be a court file with letters issued appointing someone either the executor or the administrator of an estate.

If a probate has commenced, then the name of the executor will be in the court files.

If there is no probate, the name of the proposed executor will be in the decedent's will.

If there is no probate and no will, then there is no executor, actual or proposed.
