How can we find a Will of a family member that has passed on?

We are looking for the Will of a family member that we know had one, but failed to let anyone know where it was. Also looking for possible insurance policy. Is there any way to locate something like this?

if all esle fails look through his canceled checks and see if he paid anything to a lawyer.
