Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Finding out what I inherited

HELP! HELP! My family won't cooperate with telling me any information about what my grandparent had. There is no information or case file # at the courthouse. I know I was left with more than what I am being told by my parent. This is very complex, and I cannot afford to hire an attorney. If I knew how to acquire certain info. I would be able to do most of the legwork myself. I am poor, but by no means illiterate...(did I spell that correctly?hahaha) HELP! HELP! HELP!

Re: Finding out what I inherited

if all of the estate assets were in a trust, then no probate would be required. similarly, if all property were held in joint tenancy with others, no probate would be required. finally, if the estate does not include real property and does exceed $100,000, no probate is required.

do you have knowledge that there was a will or a trust? if so you should ask for a copy in writing from your parents. if you have already done this, it may help to have an attorney contact them. if there are sufficient assets in the estate and you have reason to believe you were given a share, you can file a petition for probate of the estate. to do this you will likely also need the assistance of an attorney.
