Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

general

i have a very good friend who is temporarily incarcerated at the present moment but i have been asked to watch over his house, one of his children and maintain his establishment until he returns. this includes paying .the bills via his credit cards etc. my question is about any kind of a document or papers need to be filled out so i may access and or use his accounts without giving me total control so both he and i remain safe about each others trust ? we trust each other but on the other hand situation like this one can spoil the whole pot
