Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My girlfriend is over 18. She and I believe the conditions in her home are less then sanitary (8 cats, nine dogs, none house trained). She has a sum of money in her college fund, left by her grandparents when they passed, specifically for college. She also has an unknown amount waiting for her when she gets married. My girlfriend wants to move out because of the conditions in the home are distracting and quite honestly vile, but her mother threatens that if she does move out she will take everything away from her, even though it is in my girlfriends name. Is that legal? What kind of counter-action can be taken, if any?
