US Gov says she's back from the dead

My mother died living a gov insur policy administered by FIGLI of $20thou divided x3. 2 daughters/1adopted daug (told died by family member in 1995). Filed for $ Aug '04 2/3 dist to two live daughters, wait a yr for split of other 1/3. Gov says (coincidently, the same day we appllied to get the split) she is alive, 76 (right age) and living in Balt, MD sub. We were floored seems just to movie of the wk to be true. Why wld family lie abt this? Money now sideline to discovering why. Gov says they will not release any information about this indiv. location and refuses to intercede as a third party. Say we need a laywer to get this info (abt our own relative) by supeona. No money as mother died with Alzhiemers so no idea where burial policy was--and we're tapped. This is a branch of the family we knew in an odd way. No personal contact except Mom visted several times over the years and calls btwn the two monthly. Mom was there is Jan '95, before Chgo move. Granddghter called sisters home where Mom lived in Chgo,in June/July '95 said she died of heart attack. Complained that here daughter did not even come from FL to the funeral. Now all of a sudden she's alive? Hope you have some advice. Thanks.

you need to obtain a copy of the death certificate for your mother and send it to the government, as well as retain an attorney in maryland to determine who is using her name and social security number.
