Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My husband passed away recently and I am aware of a "joint account" my mother-in-law has with my husbands name on it. I was able to get some information from the company after I got through the "security questions" and found out that there are some funds in the account. Residing in California, does community property come into effect in this situation? Also I believe my mother-in-law has other multiple accounts with my deceased husbands name on the accounts, possibly trusts. How do I find out what his name is on, and as his wife do I have any claim to any of these accounts or trusts?

Strongly suggested you obtain the services of a probate/Trust attorney to investigate for the answers to your inquiry, and determine whether to bring legal actions on your behalf to claim your share of the community property you are entitled to.

If the funds in the accounts are your mother in law's money, you do not have a claim to them. If your husband contributed community property funds (such as his earnings) you probably do.
