Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My husbands Aunt past away about 1 year ago. His cousin is the executor of the estate. She is saying the entire estate was in AIG and all the money was lost. This is hard to believe with the government payouts to this company. Is there anyway first to find out who the lawyer is handling the estate? Can we get a copy of the will? How do we find out about AIG and the estate? I know my husband's aunt want to leave something to all her relatives as she was constantly verifying address and making comments to that effect. It just seems strange that my husband's cousin has not even mentioned anything about the will, or provided copies to all concerned.

You can check with the Probate Court in the county in which his aunt was a resident when she passed away, this is where a Proate would be filed. If your husband was a beneficiary of a will or trust, then he should have received notice and a copy of the documents, this can also be requested through a motion to the proper Probate Court. The cousin will need to provide an accounting of the estate, even if the entire value was lost through the AIG problems if your husband was a beneficiary of a will or trust.
