Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

what happens to incomplete projects when the principal dies?

A TV producer has a contract with a WGA writer to write a script for

a TV show. The contract is signed by both parties and the first

payment on the contract has been received. TV producer

unexpectedly dies. Who is the writer working for now? Is the

contract still valid? What happens to the outstanding balance

owed to the writer? Can the executor of the estate simply cancel

the contract and leave the writer with nothing? What options are

available to the wrtier in this circumstance?

The executor can cancel the contract, but you can file a claim against the estate for services rendered to date.
