Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Inheritance and community property.

If one of a married couple receives an inheritance, does the inheritance immediately become the property of both, or must the receiver of the property commingle the funds in a mutually owned account before the funds become available to both parties?

Inherited or gifted property becomes the separate property of the reciving spouse until that person comingles the property with the community assets of both.
