Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Inheritance Law

My grandmother recently passed away and we (my sister and brother and I) received letters from an attorney that we are to inherit 1/4 of the estate as our dad is one of her 4 children and he is deceased. She has a living trust. What does this mean in terms of taxes? We are being asked to fill out W9 forms. What does that mean?

Re: Inheritance Law

You will not be charged taxes on your inheritance. The estate may have to pay estate taxes if her estate exceeded a net worth of $2 million. Otherwise there is no estate tax to be paid.
