interpleader

Why would an insurance company file an interpleader in Federal Court rather than in the state where all parties are located.

The only reason I can think of is that there's over $75K at stake, and the insurance company is in a different state from each of the other parties. Your attorney could always file a motion to remand the case to state court, or for a change of venue, if warranted by the facts.
