In general, in order to give effect to a will, it must be "probated". That means filed with the court, with a formal action having the will approved and the property distributed. As part of the probate process, notice must be given to those named in the will and certain relatives of the deceased. The will is supposed to be filed within 30 days of death; if you have it, and especially if you are named as executor, it is advisable that you have a consultation with an attorney.
