Legal name changing in California

I am wondering on what are the laws and terms I need to go through to legally change my first name? Or is there a way I don't do it by law but have the name I want to change it to on my Driver's License and stuff like that?

You can change your name just by using the new name, but you may run into problems getting government agencies to accept the new name. If that's the case, you can legally change it through a court order.

Courts in California usually have a packet of the required name change forms with some instructions.
