Life insurance

My mother passed 3 years ago, no will but a life insurance policy. Insurance Co. is claiming we need a policy number? Mom didnt leave very good records.What is our recourse?

Send a letter (certified) to the insurance company's claims dept. Include a certified copy of your mother's death certificate and highlight her social security number. Tell them that if they don't send you the claims forms, you will contact the California (or relevant state's) Dept. of Insurance for acting in bad faith. Then do it if they persist in stonewalling you.

Your recourse would consist of filing a lawsuit against the insurance company for bad faith and punitive damages. That is the lamest excuse I have ever heard an insurance company use.
