life insurance in probate

An estate in probate in CA, with a life insurance policy through Aetna and

a death benifit through Aetna, with 5 heirs all over 18 year old, the two

policies stated above are in the administrators name whom is one of the

five heirs. The administrator had all five heirs sign a affifadavid of heirship

along with copies of all five of are social security cards to Aetna. Why did

the administrator do this when she was benificiary and she recieved all of

the funds? could one or both of these policies have had all five

benificiaries on the polici
