Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

I have lived on a ranch where the old man that died I was like a son to him. He told me he was leaving certain things to me, but his kids are not having it. Is there a way I can find out if anything has been left me.

If there was a will it would have to be filed down at the probate court and then its public record you could go look at the will for yourself. However if you were named in the will, you are supposed to receive some type of notice.
