Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
''lodging'' a will or ''filing'' a will
please explain the difference between ''lodging'' a will and ''filing'' a will. What does it mean when someone ''lodges'' a will? Why would someone lodge a will with superior court instead of filing it?

two words that mean the same thing. The technical term is to "lodge" the will, but what it really means is that it is filed with the Superior Court.

Basically, filing a will and lodging a will or the same thing. Within 30 days after the date of death in the county in which the principal residence was located, the decedent's Will is to be filed with the Superior Court. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
