At least 9 months, usually more depending on which court is handling the probate. Some courts have long wait between filing a petition and the hearing, so it is not unusual for a probate to take over a year.

If a probate proceeding is necessary, nothing will happen until a petition for probate is filed and the will is admitted. You should consult with an attorney to review the will and the assets of the estate to determine what needs to be done.
