how long can the executor hold the estate after the will has been read to parties named in will?

Wills are only read to the heirs in movies. There is no set time in which the estate distribution must occur.

Typically the heirs get a copy of the will attached to the probate petition, and the distribution comes after the court approves a petition for final distribution. in our county that takes about a year.
