Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

how long do they last?

I had a will drawn up while in the military. It was drafted and signed over 10 years ago. Is it still legal? How long do they last?

Re: how long do they last?

If it was drafted properly at the time, it will last until you revoke it or replace it with another will. If you have any amount of assets now, you may want to consider a trust.

Re: how long do they last?

Thank you for your question. To directly answer your question, a valid will lasts a life time. The question of course is whether your will was valid when it was signed (if so, then it is still valid now) and whether your financial and family situations have sufficiently changed to justify having the will redone. I suggest having an attorney review your will to determine whether it still meets all of your desires. If you live or work in the San Jose area, I would be willing to review it without charge. If you are interested, please call me at (408) 268-2580.

Sincerely,

Kai H. Wessels, Esq.
