Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
mentally ill son never received a dime
I am now the conservator of my friend of 25 years. When his mother died in 1982, we believe she left the apartment building to her two sons. My friend was a 24 hour drunk and mentally ill. He never received a dime or inquired until now. He is sober and competant. The other brother died in 1985 and his wife still owns the building. Is there a statute of limitations under these conditions? How can we get a copy of the will without contacting the family. How can we find out who the attorney was? Is he entitled to his share of the estate?

If the will was probated, you can look up the probate by the deceased's name in the county records. However, it may be too late to do anything, unless there was some sort of fraud or mistake in handling the probate.
