Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Does mom have to worry about losing house after dad died

I don't believe my parents ever got married in over 40 years of living together. Mostly because he never got a divorce from a previous wife in another state. (Who is still alive and though bitter was always nice to us kids.) Now the house is fully paid for and a will of sorts was written about 15 years ago. My mom is living with the impression, unconfirmed, that the house automatically goes to her and there are no taxes or what not to worry about. Is this correct?

Your mother should consult with a lawyer in the state in which she resides. The answer to your question is dependent upon the manner in which title is held.
