Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My mother died, 6 days later I was told about it. She had a trustee no one in our family trusts. I have never been told about the trust my mon had, what legal responsibility does the trustee have to notify the beneficiaries and is there a time frame? I am in the dark

The Trustee must send you a notice within 60 days of the dod, and you are entitled to request a copy of the terms of the trust. If you are a beneficiary, you are also entitled to be kept informed regarding the trust administration and to periodic and final accounts. Keep in mind that everything will happen more slowly than you wish, and that this is normal.

I am sorry for your loss.

I would send a letter to the trustee requesting a copy of the Trust and all related documentation. If the Trustee is not trustworthy, I would probably have an attorney send the trustee the letter so that they understand that you are serious.

If they do not respond to the request, depending on the value of property in the trust, a court proceeding could be brought to remove the trustee from that position.

Let me know if you would like to discuss the matter.

Sincerely,
