Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My mother left with my half sister when I was three. She never paid any child support or came to see me. That was 48 years ago. I've seen her twice in all those years. Once when I was twelve and once in my 30's. Both times she came with gifts or money along with appologies, excuses and promises that she wanted to open a relationship with me. Well I've given up on that prospect. She lives in California and is very wealthy, due in part to the inheritence my estranged grandparents left her soon after she left. She is now in her 70's and I've heard her health is failing. I recently looked her up on facebook and I see several people calling her mom and auntie. I know for a fact that my sister and I are the only blood realitives. I know I will never achieve peace of mind over being abandoned when she chose to take my sister and leave me behind. I know I probably sound bad asking this question but I was cheated out of a mother and need some sort of closure on this for my own sanity. Do I have any rights for some sort of compensation?

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any law that would give yo any rights while she is alive. It is much too late to seek child support or sue her for any intentional trauma she caused. If she made a promise to pay yo something, even from her estate after she dies, too much time has passed for that to be enforceable. Once she dies, however, she might not have been very careful in her estate planing; if she leaves no Will, then as her child you would be entitled to a share of her private [non-community] property. Even if she lives a Will there might be some chance you could inherit something. I assume she did divorce your father; if not, then his estate might be entitled to their community property. Will attending the funeral help you?
