Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
My mother passed in 1991 she told my brother & i she had left us an iheritance but she never told us where. he has been calling & asking about it so, after all these years i decided to have a look. she was married & he now lives in hawaii. she lived & died in california. i asked him for the death cert, & her ss number, he said he didn't know anything. i have obtained the death cert, where do i go from here? i never even thought of searching before it is now 2016 is it too late?

If assets were held jointly, then there would not be any Estate from your mother that you would have inherited from. If she had assets that were in just her name then her will or trust might control. 1991 was a long time ago. You could look to see if any Probate was opened in the County she was living in at the time of her death, but it's doubtful as you would have received notice of any Probate from the Executor.
