Mother passed without a will

My mother passed away without a will. Someone owed her money prior to her death. How do my sister and I collect the money?

you need to open probate first. once you're appointed as adminstrators you can go after the debt.

YOu have to open a probate and obtain letters of appointment as the administrator of the estate. They you have the legal right to pursue collection.
