my mother has passed and she has a will and revocable trust in CA. What steps do I take to execute the will as executor?

There are too many steps to list here. Read the Nolo Press books on trusts and estates; if there are many assets or real property you may need to see an attorney handling that type of matter so that the legal fees are not less that the money you loses by not having the expert advice.

It depends on whether her assets were held in her name as Trustee, and if not, whether they were assigned to the trust. If everything is titled correctly, you might not have to probate the Will at all. I agree with Mr. Shers that you should consult an attorney.
