Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
My mother recently died. To cover her funeral costs, I wrote a check on her bank account and forged her name in the amount of $6000. Her bank's fraud detection department is now asking questions. How do I explain this, what are the consequences and what should I do? I've been her primary care taker for 12 years and I had access to her accounts.

Why did you forge her name if you could sign on the account? All the bank has to do is compare the official date of death with the date of the check and you're busted. You need to talk to a criminal defense attorney, not a probate specialist.
There is no explanation that will erase the situation you describe as "forged". If you HAD access, why was that needed? If they are pressing charges, you will need a criminal defense attorney, Mr. Seidler is correct.
