Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My mother recently passed away in Los Angeles, CA. Is the attorney legally obligated to send me a copy of her will without my request or do I have to request a copy from the courts? I do not have any information concerning the lawyer and am waiting for him to file her will with the L.A. Superior Courts. My concern is that the lawyer does not have my contact information and I want to ensure I receive a copy of the will. Thank you for your help.

The custodian of the will is required under the probate code to lodge the will with the clerk of the court of the county in which the will is to be probated within thirty days of the decedents date of death. You can check with the court. You can also file a request for special notice with the court and serve it in the attorney. There is a California Judicial Council form available for that. Feel free to email me with any follow up questions. Jim.
