Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My mother recently passed away and my sister is the power of attorney. It states that I am to receive 1/2 of her $$ in the checking account. My mother is due a sum of money from a medical issue before she passed. It also states that any moneys received after she passes away are my sisters.

My question is : can my sister open an account as an estate account and legally put the sum that is coming in into that account as hers ?
