what can I do regarding my mothers, retirement benefits?

my mother worked for a company that went bankrupt, the retirement funds went to a seperate institute to determine the amounts that should be awarded. she made me beneficiary of this, they are telling me that they will only pay survival benefits to a spouse. can I fight this?

You should ask them for the specific justification for their response--what were the original benefits promised and what is the new institution's obligation? If the answer doesn't come or isn't satisfactory, see an attorney to see what recourse you may have.
