Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

How does non-family member view a Will?

In California, how can a non-family member view a will?

Is a will ''public'' knowledge or do I need to petition the

court to see it? Specifically, I want to read my

step-daughter's Grandmother's (maternal) will. I do not

want to involve any family members. How do I go about

doing this?

The will should be lodged (filed) with the Superior Court in the county where the person lived (assuming she has already passed away). Go to the court to inquire. Hopefully someone has initiated a probate.
