notary paper legality in court

I have a notarized document stating the terms of a personal loan i made to my grandson's father. How legally binding is this document, how well would it stand up in court if he decides not to repay? state of california.

Sure, why not. But, if you are concerned about repayment you might want to reduce the debt to a note with an attorneys fees provision, and an accelleration upon default clause.
