Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
No notification of death
I have a copy of the Last Will and Testament stating for me to recieve some money and any automobiles the deceased had at the time.I was never notified of the death, and found out by making some calls. How can I find out if I was still on the will and have something coming to me.I don't think the executor (his brother) or anyone else tried to contact me to inform me of his passing. The copy I have in my possesion was dated April 1988 with a stamp of ''ORIGINAL IN SAFE COOPER, EPSTEIN, & HUREWITZ''.I was unable to locate them.I do not know the exact date of the death execept it was about a year and half ago.

Our firm specializes in Estate Planning. We can contact the prior counsel and retrieve the information you will need. We can do this for a minimal charge.
Alternatively, you can do some of the legwork yourself and if you reach a wall or are unable to get the answers you need, at that point we can step in an assist you.
The only attorney I found licensed in CA that meets your description is Phalen Gilbert Hurewitz (the others brought up too many possibilities). His contact information is available at calbar.org.
Again, feel free to contact me for additional assistance at 626-578-0708 extension 4 or through our firm's site at www.No-Probate.com

Re: No notification of death
Probate records can usually be found in the court records of the county where the deceased was last living. Check to see if a probate has been filed to view the will. Look in the index for the deceaseds name. This will usually be listed alphabetically by surname. Find and note the docket number. Assuming no such record exists, you may open the probate yourself with the will you have. Even if your share is small, you can earn a fee as the personal representative if you are the only one in the picture who is honest enough to produce a real will (or in this case a copy of such a will.) Feel free to call me for a free telephone consultation at (818) 243-9676.
