Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
If a parent misrepresents your rights in an estate, does his lawyer have a legal obligation to look out for your best interest as a child? My mother died without a will when I was 20. Less than a month later, as I was dealing with the loss and going into early labor, he had me sign something signing away my rights, without disclosing that there actually was money coming in.

The lawyer does not have a professional relationship with you and owes no special duty to you. If the lawyer, however, knows that you are entitled to something and that you are relying upon his statements to you to give up something of value and your are not involved in an adverserial situation against his client, it would seem to me that the lawyer has committed a fraud against you or has at least conspired with his client to commit a fraud. You need to act before the statutue of limnitations runs out. You need to contact several attorneys to see if they are interested in your case.
