Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
Payment obligation
My mother died and she owed a lot of creditors. My name was not on any of her cards. She did not money saved up, she lived off her pension and my dads pension, with help from me. Am I obligated to pay her bills?

Re: Payment obligation
No, despite what the creditors may tell you. Her estate (her assets) is responsible to pay the creditors, up to the value of her estate, if any.

Re: Payment obligation
No, you are not obligated to pay your mother's unpaid bills. However, any property she may have owned at the time of her death must be used to pay creditors before distributions are made to family members.
