Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

personal property disbursement without a will

my step-father was living in a house I owed. I was on his checking account, took him to the doctor, gave him money, cooked him meals. He died Dec.00. He had 3 other blood related children who were not involved with him. He had no will. What legal obligation do I have in regards to disbursing his personal property?

(Car, etc.)
