Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this but i can't find the answer anywhere else. i was wondering what i have to do to correct my name on my birth certificate? The correction in only by one letter. I have been going by Jonathan my whole life, and when i got my drivers license i saw that on my birth certificate my name was spelled Johnathan and not Jonathan. I know it's not much of a difference but i have never used Jonathan with the H between the O and the A. The name that appears on my high school diploma, Social Security card, baptism certificate, etc is Jonathan. So basically how do i go from Johnathan to Jonathan on my birth certificate? Would i have to go through the name change process to correct it?

I think Ms. Cusack is referring to you posting in the wrong category, and not the wrong website.

In California, you must fill out and sign an affidavit in order to amend a birth certificate. You will also need to fill out form vs-24. The affidavit, form and additional documentation should be sent to the California office of vital records. It has been awhile since I have filed one of those for a client. I believe you may have to file a petition for a name change to your correct name, as a prerequisite.
