Can I act on my own behalf if I have a Power of Attorney established?

A person who has created a Power of Attorney (POA) naming some else as their representative can still continue to represent themselves as long as they are a competent adult. Unless the power of attorney is "durable", as defined by California law, the POA representative can only represent the principal until the principal revokes the POA; the principal is no longer competent; or, the principal dies. Regardless of whether the POA is durable or not, the principal can represent him or her self as long as they are competent.
