Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Probate

My Mother passed away in 2007, she didn't have a will. I was named the administrator of her estate. She had a Reverse Mortgage. It took the Probate over 1 year to complete. They reverse mortgage Co. wanted to be paid within a years time. The house was foreclosed and now I'm being hit with a 10000.00 + bill. Is it my responsibility? I lost a home that I inheirited. I can't afford to pay this bill and They are trying to garnish my wages. I never agreed to take on the responsibility of paying out of my pocket. The lawyer told me and my sibling , the way he was to get paid was by a sale of the property or a re-financing. We ran out of time to prevent the foreclosure. Am I responsible? I have spent a lot of my own money paying propety taxes, house insurance, etc. And I wasn't even living in the house ever!

Re: Probate

I'd ask your lawyer. Without knowing more, it seems the bill would be the estate's responsibility, not yours. And if the estate is insolvent, it can't pay the bill, or at least not the entire bill.
